-
Milk Steaming
There are a few ways to get this done. We suggest that you invest in your own electric milk frother.
It makes the job much easier and it is a must have for your latte. There are others that actually use the microwave for this part but its up to you.
Just know that depending on the type of microwave that you have the time may be different that it takes to get the milk right.
-
Use your own spice
As a finishing touch on top or throughout the end cup of coffee there are elements that you can incorporate that will help make your coffee taste just right.
Putting things in your cup such as honey or dark chocolate shavings can change the whole experience.
We suggest using spices like cinnamon or ginger to add a little kick to your home latte.
-
Source good coffee beans
The first ingredient in making the best coffee at home must be the beans. Take your time and select the best beans for your home brew.
Places like toastymilk.com or deathwishcoffee.com seem to be some of the more popular places online to order your beans.
But you could even source your beans from a local market in your hometown. The best way to find the best beans is to try lots of them. There are thousands of brands out there.
-
Prepare your machine
Because of all the practice that is required to find your favorite brew process. It is a good idea to make sure that you are properly cleaning your coffee maker often.
Otherwise, you will end up with left over flavors from the last brew that will make your new cup taste awful.
When cleaning your equipment though. Please be sure to use organic cleaners or something less harsh. Things like bleach are too strong and tend to linger in your machine.
-
Determine what your best brew method is
Most of us that make coffee at home use a normal drip coffee maker. That is perfect for those of us who like a little milder tasting brew.
But for those of us who like a stronger cup you may want to opt in for a French press.
Keep in mind there is a little bit of a learning curve for the French press. Here are the steps for using a French press at home.
-
No tap Water
There are so many different things in our tap water these days it should be illegal.
That being said, the particulates that are in the water tend to make the coffee made with it taste terrible.
So, no tap water. Make sure to use purified water or even bottled water if you have it.
This will not only make the coffee taste much better. But it will also keep the brew tasting good consistently.
-
Where you store your coffee matters
Coffee beans are organic and as we know if you leave anything organic out for too long it will start to mold and decay.
So be sure to store your coffee in a cool dry place. Preferably in a dark glass container or a metal tin works as well.
-
Measure out your grounds
The best way to make sure that your coffee lasts and stays fresh is to only use what you need for your next pot of coffee. Stay away from grounding up all your coffee grounds at once.
Even though it may seem more convenient. It is not good for the longevity of the coffee and definitely not good for the taste of your latte.
-
Don’t be afraid of the scale
We want to make good coffee repeatedly. In order to do this, we will need to make sure that we are duplicating the same process that made our coffee great the first time.
Weighing your beans on a scale will sometimes make all the difference when it comes to its taste.
If the first pot took 90grams of whole beans, then that means that every pot should have 90 grams of whole beans.
-
Take your time and buy whole beans
It is a must to experiment with your coffee making process and there are definatly a lot of ways to complete this process.
Taking your time to find the right coffee beans and then buying and grinding your own beans will be worth its weight in gold.
Just take my word for it. Buy whole beans and grind them up at home before every brew. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
-
Don’t forget the filter
Most coffee makers have their recommended filters, so this step is I think the easiest of the bunch.
Just check the coffee maker’s instructions and it will tell you what filter is needed for your machine.
-
Do your research
Finally. Do your research and ask around there are lots and lots of coffee drinkers all around you that all have their own personal preference when it comes to coffee.
Don’t be afraid to ask them where they source their beans. Or what brewing method do they use at home?
Coffee aficionados I call them, are always itching to let you in on their little coffee secrets.
When it comes to brewing coffee at home the process is simple, not easy but simple. Once you have found your own special blend of spices, beans, milk and machine.
